Crochet Podcast Episode 27

Lululoves | Crochet Vlogcast episode 27

Hello 2020! As always I’m slowly warming up to the new year. I wish I was the type of person who could jump straight into a new year with gusto but as I’ve got older I’ve discovered it’s better for me to approach the new year as a gentle stroll rather than a sprint…

I spent the festive season making sure I was as present as I could be, Lulu and I enjoyed filming videos for our vlogmas series, I read A LOT, played games, went for walks and ate way to much cheese. Bliss!

Finished Items:

I did manage to finish the Boxy Card that I’d been slowly working on for the best part of last year. I’ve added some simple ribbing to the bottom and a double crochet (US single crochet) edging. It’s the comfiest item to wear, the weight of it just makes you feel like you are being hugged, it’s incredibly warm and I think it looks fab too! I’ll be writing up a full post on it next week with all the details – so keep an eye out if you’d like to make something similar.

*EDIT* The tutorial for my Boxy Cardigan is now up on the blog here.

I tried working with some super chunky yarn and created the most beautiful star wall hanger. The kit I used was from Woolly Mahoosive. These are perfect if you are new to arm crochet! The kit comes with the metal hanger which you crochet around, all the yarn you need and a copy of the pattern with full instructions.

I also finally finished my embroidery piece. Folklore Company kindly asked if I would like to try one of their design kits. I chose a quote from one of my favourite books Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. I’ve really enjoyed working on it and even though I found it quite slow going the result was definitely worth it.

Works in Progress (WIPS):

I’m making another set of the Catherine Wristies by Kirsten Ballering for my mum. I really love the pair I made myself and I’m so happy to be working with that beautiful stitch pattern again. The free pattern can be found on Kirsten's blog in English and Dutch, www.haakmaarraak.nl

New Items:

I was very spoiled this Christmas and received some of the most thoughtful gifts from my family including:

A beautiful handmade Skeleton Project Bag by Coco and Flora on Etsy. The fabric is so quirky I smile every time I see it!

My husband surprised me with a handmade Stirling Silver crochet hook by Lyn Roberts Design. I was so overwhelmed and I just know it is something I will cherish forever.

My eldest daughter found this amazing Project Book from theschooloflife.com, I can’t wait to start filling it with sketches and project ideas.

Lastly the most beautiful velvet pouch, I’m going to be using this Anthropologie Initial Pouch as a notions bag. It’s the most gorgeous peach velvet.

I managed to read 32 books last year that’s 2 over my target of 30. This year I’ve set my target at a very slightly higher 35. You can see everything I’m currently reading or have read over on my Goodreads account but my favourite reads of the past few weeks have been

The Roanoak Girls by Amy Engel - Beautiful, mysterious, rich... the Roanoke Girls seem to have it all. But there's a dark truth about them that's never spoken. Either girl either runs away, or dies! A disturbing tale, but beautifully written - its been described as something between Sharp Objects and Flowers in the Attic.

Lullaby by Leila Slimani - A psychological thriller which starts with the murder of two young children by their nanny. I'm not sure thriller is the right description of this book as it really explores the nannys psychological descent up to the awful act of murder. Still, I couldn't put it down once I'd started.

Nutshell by Ian McEwan - Tells the story of a murder plot through the thoughts of an unborn child. I found it hard to get going on this one for some reason but around 50 pages in I was engaged and really enjoyed it.

The Perfect Stranger by Megan Miranda - I flew through this one a perfect thriller for fans of Gone Girl.

You can hear more of my thoughts on the above books in the vlogcast.

TV Anne with an E – Netflix - Obviously! Still in love with this series and happily working my way through the new season.

Little Women film - Absolutely loved the new adaption of Little Women directed by Greta Gerwig. Visually pleasing, I cant stop thinking about the costumes! Loved the acting, scenery, everything! I Need to watch it again ASAP.

Anyway, that’s all for now. I hope you have had a wonderful start to the new year whether you are a sprinter or a stroller ;)
