Crochet Podcast Episode 17

Lululoves Crochet Podcast | Episode 17

Hello. I’ve finally filmed another crochet podcast! Episode 17 is now live on YouTube full of tales of my latest makes plus a rather embarrassing game of how many random items can you find in a ball of yarn…

Finished Items:

Hot Water Bottle Cosy

This is my own pattern; it’s already been featured on the blog here. So if you’d like to know more about the yarn (along with the free pattern) pop over and have a read.

Boo Doily by Marsha Glassner

I spotted this fabulous doily over on Instagram. It was featured on the @CrochetZine Instagram account (which is a monthly crochet Insta mag).  I found the pattern over on Ravelry – it’s a free download here.

I used a DK weight cotton for mine (Paintbox DK Cotton approx 100g) and a 4mm hook. It came out a lot bigger than the original at 24” but it’s just perfect for my coffee table and the children love it.

Halloween Web Collar

Again, another pattern of mine that I’ve created for the spooky season. The free pattern is available here, along with a step-by-step tutorial and all the yarn details. I’ve had so much fun with this collar.

Catherine Wristies by Haak Maar Raak Blog

I’ve just started these but I love them already. This free pattern is available in Dutch and English from the Haak Maar Raak blog. I’m working them up with aran weight yarn. Cascade Bentley in shade 23 and Drops Nepal in shades and a 4.5mm hook.

As yet untitled jumper

I’m struggling with the sleeves of my new jumper but I am loving the tweed aran yarn.

New Items:

Beautiful resin crochet hook and stitch markers from Ivy & Stitch. There are so many beautiful hooks over at her Etsy store {edit: this shop has since closed}. I’ll definitely be buying more.

Faerie Knitting by Alice and Lisa Hoffman

I pre-ordered this book a while ago, despite barely being able to knit. It includes 14 knitting patterns each with it’s own fairy story to go with it.  Alice Hoffman is the author of Practical Magic and The Rules of Magic so I knew I had to have it.

Books I’ve Read

I’ve spent most of this month reading the All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness; A Discovery of Witches, Shadow of Night and The Book of Life. I started reading after watching The Discovery of Witches on TV this month. Described as a Twilight Saga for grown-ups the story is based in a world where vampires, witches and demons (creatures) live un-noticed amongst humans. They are forbidden to mix to keep their presence hidden. The story focuses on the love story that develops between Diana Bishop, a witch (and a historian) who refuses to use magic and Matthew Clairmont a vampire (and a scientist) who is researching the origins of creatures after Diana discovers an ancient text that has been missing for centuries. I feel like I’ve done it a bit of a disservice to sum it up as it is full of so much more, history, science, race and prejudice, love, loyalty, magic, alchemy... gahhh I could go on and on.

Also showing a couple of spooky books I’ve purchased for the children. Roald Dahl’s Ghost Stories and this gorgeous picture book adaption of E.T.

Besides falling in love with A Discovery of Witches I have also just finished The Haunting of Hill House on Netflix. I really, really, really enjoyed this ghost story and it seems I was not alone in my love for it (and in not being able to watch it at night!) Anyway, head over to the Podcast if you’d like to hear more.

Anyway, I think that's all for now - you can watch episode 17 here. I'll be back in a couple of weeks with the next episode.

I'll leave you with a few snaps from the pumpkin patch! xx
