Pom-Pom Tea Cosy

Pom-Pom Tea Cosy

A while ago I went along to a Jamie at Home party. I fell in love with a big yellow teapot that was sitting snug inside a lovely bright crochet tea cosy. I ended up buying the teapot but I just couldn't justify buying the cosy when I knew I would get more satisfaction (and save some pennies) if I made one myself...

I wanted my cosy to be bold and bright so I made a start after the party with 8 different colours. I finished one piece and didn't like it at all. I put it down and forgot about it (I don't know about you but if I'm not happy with the colours of a project I can't persuade myself to continue). I was thinking about that tea cosy at the weekend so I tried again using only 4 colours. I was much happier with this mix and it worked up quickly. The cosy was made in two pieces and the only stitch I used was double crochet (US single crochet), working into the back loops to create the ridging. There's a great tutorial on YouTube here if you'd like to have a go at something similar yourself.

Mine came up a little short which made attaching the pom-pom quite difficult, so if you are going to make one like this I'd recommend you make sure the length finishes a good inch or so over the lid.

Anyway I managed it and I'm thrilled with it :)

My little monster was quite taken with it too... while I was photographing it she asked me to make one for her, I said 'of course', and in return she offered me a delicious wooden cookie! Oh I love that girl!

I'm quite embarrassed by how happy that giant pom-pom makes me!

Bye for now. Em xx

No-0ne could fail but love this. The colours and the texture of that giant pom-pom is so inviting. I am glad to see that you have a dresser uperer. I have one of these too :) drives me a bit crazy sometimes but quite cute too. She is quite savvy offering you something that you couldn't help but refuse!! (Looking forward to seeing one for her play tea set!!!)

Aren't they great! Although she refuses to dress up as anything remotely girly (so sadly no fairies/princesses for us!) but she has a great collection of monsters/animals/pirates that she loves (as do I) I love their imaginations at this age. I'm looking forward to making that mini cosy! Em xx

I absolutely LOVE it! The colours, the pompom - everything! Is there a pattern...? :)

PS Little Miss is STILL wearing the crochet collar - today with a princess dress. It's absolutely a fave here. xxx

Hi Sarah, No pattern as such for this but the YouTube tutorial I linked in the post should give you the basic cosy - I just made mine slightly longer (though not quite long enough) and added a big pom pom to the top. Em xx

Oh how gorgeous Em, he (the teapot, male, I don't know why I assume that!) looks so perfectly dressed for this freezing weather we're having. I saw some beautiful crochet teacosies around blogland last year, its on my list of things to do for myself and hopefully as presies for next xmas ... I just have to find the perfect teapot first ...
Hope you are well and a belated Happy New Year xxx

Ooh wow, this is great. My dad was given a baby tea pot for his birthday and has since requested a tea cosy so thanks for giving me some inspiration.
Pom poms are a bit special in our house. Before I was born my mum spent ages knitting and sewing bits for me and dad was feeling left out so she said he could make a Pom Pom for a hat. He was slightly too enthusiastic, so much so that the pom pom ended up the same size as my head!

I think we've got it somewhere and we still have the photos. I showed Dad your tea cosy and he loves it and wants me to make one similar, although he'll let me make the pom pom this time :) Alex x
