Crochet - Lulu's Headband

Just a quick post to share with you this quick crochet project.  My friend and I were discussing ideas for Christmas gifts and I suggested ear warmers! I've seen lots of pictures of crochet headbands on the internet so on Sunday with some time to spare I set about trying to create something...

...I basically worked it up by chain stitching until I had a length I felt was big enough to fit around Lulu's head (seemed a good idea to start with the smallest head!) then joined with a slip stitch to make a circle.  From here on I worked in rounds, 3 rounds of double crochet and then 3 rows of clusters finished with 3 more rounds of doubles.  I then added a flower motif using the same yarn, made using a popcorn stitch and groups of doubles for the outer petals.

It turned out lovely though was a little snug *note to self: MEASURE next time* and was not wide enough to cover her ears fully but Lulu loved it and looked very cute although as the day went on just looked a bit like Rambo to be honest...ho hum!  But it was fun to make and we live and learn so I'm trying to perfect a pattern that I'm happy with.

Here are some quick snaps from my phone:

I'll let you know how I get on...

*Update Oct 2011* After playing around with these headbands I've found the best way is to create the headband in one long piece and then join. When I've tried to create these working in rounds they don't have as much stretch. You could also create the edging stitches in rounds after it has been joined.

Bye for now.

Em xx
