So here it is...

...Merry Christmas: making, making, making!

So here it is...

It's a busy busy time of year for everyone, I've spent December frantically crocheting to get my Christmas orders out and I have a few days now to make some Christmas gifts (nothing like cutting it fine!) We've *Rob* made the cake and have been lovingly 'feeding' it all month the children have finally got to decorate it.  We've made snow globes 'a la Kirstie Alsop', decorated the tree, written cards, wrapped presents (will it ever end...?), watched 2 nativities, been to several carol services, listened to my new christmas album 'A Very She & Him Christmas' and watched 'The Grinch' and 'The Polar Express' A LOT, no one seems to want to watch my favourites: 'National Lampoons Christmas Vacation' or 'White Christmas' - I'll wait till they're in bed...

December Days

Ice Skating

December Days

December has finally arrived; days are shorter, nights longer and we're feeling the need to hibernate in front of a warm fire!  I've been really busy with my crochet projects and have been overwhelmed that people have actually requested some of my items to buy and give as Christmas gifts! I've had a lot of requests for hats and scarves and I've had to do a lot of experimenting with yarns/hooks to get different sizes and for the first time in my life I've found a use for Pi!

Amongst all this we are preparing for Christmas so I've been trying to find lots of things to do to get us in the mood for the festive period.  Ice skating seems such a perfectly 'wintry' thing to do so we headed off wrapped up early one morning to a garden centre close by with an outdoor rink for the holidays...

Crochet - Granny Stripe Poncho

A Halloween Treat

Crochet - Granny Stripe Poncho

I meant to post this much earlier but things got so busy it got missed but I think It's worth posting about because it was the first item of clothing I ever crocheted (and it was so simple). I really wanted to make a little poncho for Lulu, she's fairly small so I felt it would be a manageable project for a newbie crocheter!

Halloween was approaching and I thought it would be great to make something she could wear over her flimsly Halloween costume as I always worry about the children running around in those costumes (they refuse to wear jumpers/coats.) We don't 'trick or treat' but I do like to have a little Halloween 'tea' for the children and their friends of which their favourite part is always running around the garden in the dark with their torches! Anyway onto the pattern...

The American Museum, Bath

& a touch of old Hollywood glamour!

The American Museum, Bath

So we had many days to fill in the Summer and as the holidays moved on I started to look for interesting days out that weren't too far from home and that I could manage alone with the children! It's always really hard taking young children to museums/stately homes especially ones where there are no opportunities for younger children to touch, explore and have a run about.  I think many Museums are getting the hang of this now and it can actually make for a really fun experience.  So I decided to take the plunge and pay a visit to the American Museum in Britain, somewhere I remember visiting myself as a child!

The American Museum is tucked out of the way on route to Bath, situated in the beautiful Claverton House. It is one of the few places in the UK you can visit to really appreciate how people lived in America from the earliest English settlers to the Civil War and focuses on the development of American Decorative Arts.  It is set (and this was the deciding factor with the children) in 120 acres of beautiful grounds with some of the most stunning local views...plus in all honestly I was DESPERATE to see the Marilyn Monroe exhibition...

Fish & Chips, Fossil Hunting and a New hat

Lulu loves a new crochet hat!

Fish & Chips, Fossil Hunting and a New hat

After a very hectic couple of weeks we decided to escape to the beach on Saturday, simply to have a walk and some fish & chips by the sea. We ended up on the gorgeous Jurassic coast at Lyme Regis, Dorset. This beautiful coastline has been granted World Heritage Site status because of its geological interest.  We've been many times before and it's the perfect place for a walk, exploring rock pools and the obvious activity, fossil hunting...

Crochet - Lulu's Headband

Crochet - Lulu's Headband

Just a quick post to share with you this quick crochet project.  My friend and I were discussing ideas for Christmas gifts and I suggested ear warmers! I've seen lots of pictures of crochet headbands on the internet so on Sunday with some time to spare I set about trying to create something...

A Crochet Update

A Crochet Update

It's been a while since I've made the time to blog; I took a little break from it over the summer holidays to spend time with my family.  Since then my eldest has started secondary school, Oli has gone back to primary school, Lulu has started a new nursery two mornings a week and I've lost someone very dear to me! I'm trying to get back on track now.

During this time I have continued working on my crochet projects so I thought I'd share some pictures of what I've been up to.  Some of you may have already seen these as I've had the images stored on my computer for a while now...

A Summer Birthday Party

Lulu loves a party

A Summer Birthday Party

Last Saturday we celebrated Oli and Lulu's summer birthdays with a garden party.  Nothing to grand just a few friends and their mums and dads but I prayed all week for the rain to hold off!  We put up a party gazebo in the garden just incase it did shower or to keep the sun off little shoulders should it shine!

We filled the garden with toys, dressing up and opened up the clubhouse so they could get up to no good in private!!  Luckily it was a really warm day, the sun came out in spurts and we (the adults) were able to laze around on picnic blankets while the children played.

It's really hard when you're preparing party food for outside as I've found children like to graze at party food and if it's warm you end up with curled sandwiches and fighting to keep flies away; so this year I decided to keep it simple and it removed all of the stress...

Birthday Preparations

Crochet Heart Bunting and Mini Cupcakes

Birthday Preparations

Birthday time is upon us Lulu turned 2 yesterday and Oli will follow shortly with his 5th birthday next week.  Time is flying by and the days are as hectic as ever, having a toddler at home is lovely but also hard work everything is 'mine' and everyone is 'naaauty' (except Lulu of course!).  I was rudely awaken the other morning with her throwing pennies at my head (from her brothers money box) as if I was some kind of wishing well, whilst shouting 'goodmorning wakeup'! I tried to explain to her it would be much nicer to sneak into bed and try to wake me by stroking my head or bringing me coffee but she just smiled, nodded and continued her attack!

So with birthdays being so close we decided to throw a joint party and I've been busy creating lots of little bits including some lovely crochet heart bunting...

A New Journey

Learning to Crochet

A New Journey

If you read my last post you will know I have recently been learning how to crochet.  A friend and I loved the idea of being able to create our own blankets for our children and set off on a quest that at times has been both hilarious and frustrating but hugely rewarding...
